Dubai, Malaga, Miami: these are the cities that attract the most teleworkers

Still visible effect of the pandemic, teleworking continues to attract executives. And some cities are struggling to accommodate these new nomadic workers. The British broker Savills reveals its 2023 ranking of the best destinations.

The 2023 gold medal goes to Dubai. The first city of the United Arab Emirates is a consensus among full-time teleworkers and surpasses Lisbon, at the top of the ranking last year. To establish this ranking, Savills is based on 5 criteria: efficient internet network, quality of life, climate, rental prices and air connections. Each criterion offers a certain number of points to each city.

With 34.2 points in total, Dubai is well ahead of the 2023 ranking. A booming tech hub, the city is also benefiting from the wave of layoffs in the sector in other parts of the world. It is particularly popular for the quality of the internet network, its air hub and the quality of life in the area, which make up for the dry and very hot climate during part of the year, as well as the high rents.

Lisbon penalized for its income, highlights Malaga

Enough to surpass Lisbon, relegated to 5th place this year (30.4 points). The Portuguese capital is facing dizzying rents. If real estate prices have cooled off teleworkers, Lisbon is still appreciated for its quality of life.

On the contrary, Málaga (32.4 points) made an outstanding entry in this ranking. Propelled into 2nd position, the Andalusian city benefits from the arrival of Google’s European cybersecurity center. Miami finally completes the podium. Thanks to its low tax rate, low income growth, and climate, Florida attracts financial executives from the northeastern United States.

Europe wins the game

Miami is also the only North American representative. In the top 20, 11 destinations are European. Barcelona and Palma in Spain, Athens, Malta and Cyprus or even Dubrovnik: the EU seems to retain the favors of teleworkers.

On the French side, Savills recommends the Côte d’Azur, destination 15 in the ranking with 22 points. With his internet speed as the first argument in favor of nomadic workers.
