United States: weekly decline in jobless claims

The four-week moving average stands at 234,250 from 231,500 the previous week.

Jobless claims fell in the United States for the week to August 12, to 239,000 from 250,000 (revised) the week before, the Labor Department announced Thursday. Economists expected an average of 240,000 jobless claims.

Registration for the week through August 5 has been revised up from an initial estimate of 248,000.

Up to more than 4 weeks

The four-week moving average stands at 234,250 from 231,500 (revised) the previous week.

The number of regular recipients of benefits rose to 1,716 million during the week to August 5 (last week for which these figures are available) compared to 1,684 million the previous week.
