“We must reactivate good reflexes” before “the great wave of heat that will last several more days, with very high peaks today and probably tomorrow,” hammered the minister from the Saint-Charles station in Marseille, one of the most important in France. , particularly busy during this period of return from vacation.
This “heat wave” device, already activated last summer, will be activated this time “for as long as necessary, obviously at least until the middle of the week in certain departments”, according to the minister.
“The SNCF has deployed in all the stations involved”, that is, in the 49 departments in a heat wave, orange surveillance, “surveillance messages (and) information”, in particular inviting passengers to drink water, detailed Clément Beaune.
Namely: “Bring water, pay attention to fragile people -small children, the elderly-, do not hesitate to ask the carriers.”
Reinforced SNCF maintenance teams
“The SNCF maintenance teams have also been reinforced because we know that when it is very hot this can have an impact on the catenaries, on the rails,” he added, specifying that for the moment no incident related to the heat wave. had been recorded.
“But we have to be very vigilant, which is why we do as much prevention as possible to check that the air conditioning works on board the trains, that the rails or the catenaries are not subjected to excessive heat”, in order to have “the least number of possible technical incidents” related to the heat wave.
Bottles of water are also distributed free of charge in the main stations affected by the orange surveillance: “You withdraw a voucher and you have, in Relay stores in particular, a free bottle of water that everyone can use”, explained Clément Beaune. , demonstration in support.
“We also ask all motorway companies to mobilize in the areas to transmit (…) all these prevention messages” and “we also do it in all our large airports”, in Lyon, Marseille and Paris, he said.
