This sovereign debt specialist, born in 1953 in Tunisia, was notably president of the Paris School of Economics, an internationally renowned university center for economic research.
His death aroused many reactions in the political and economic world. Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to him on Twitter:
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne expressed her “sadness” upon learning of the disappearance of Daniel Cohen, whose “vision of the French economy and of the great revolutions, in particular the digital one, will be lost in public debate.”

Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire praised X as “a great economist, but also an outstanding educator, a pioneer of new ideas, a brilliant and compelling author.”
For his part, environment MEP Yannick Jadot said he lamented a man “remarkably intelligent, connected to the issues of our time”.
Daniel Cohen was “one of the greatest intellectuals, economists, driven by all the concerns and science of the moment, someone irreplaceable,” testified Frédéric Worms, director of the Ecole Normale Supérieure, where Daniel Cohen was professor emeritus.
