Four or even five digit regulations… This is what many customers of the ENI electricity company have been surprised to discover in their mail in recent weeks. These exorbitant sums of several thousand euros, for “updating”, claimed by the Italian company, have led many consumers to complain on social networks. The Facebook group entitled “Victims of Eni and her pranks” contained numerous protest messages.
Convened on Wednesday by the Minister for Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, ENI finally admitted mistakes. Irregularities that affect some 100,000 contracts, according to reports the parisian.
The tariff shield in question
In other words, the energy provider had not always taken into account the reduction in bills induced by the tariff shield mechanism. Therefore, ENI managers will implement corrective measures that should affect 100,000 customers. This is a real relief for affected customers.
Because until now the Energy Ombudsman had only recognized the breach of the duty of information by the Italian energy supplier, which many ENI clients have dealt with. To justify these regulatory bills, the spokesperson for the public authority had mentioned, on August 11, in the columns of the Figaro the “renewal of supply contracts at a fixed price”.
At the moment, the date on which these rectifications will take place has not been communicated. It is also not clear whether the errors acknowledged by the electricity provider will cover all dissatisfied customers.
As for the energy provider Engie, also affected by consumer complaints and summoned by the ministry on Wednesday, it would not have made any billing errors. A payment margin has been established for clients who are asked for large sums.
