The city of Santiago de los Caballeros, in the Dominican Republic, intends to equip itself with a monorail and the SIF consortium led by Alstom has been selected to build it.
Alstom’s part of the contract amounts to around €370 million out of a total of €500 million. “This project is financed with the support of the French government,” read a press release. This is the first contract for a monorail system signed by Alstom since the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation.
13 kilometers and 14 stations
“Once completed, the monorail system, 13 kilometers long and with 14 stations, will be the first of its kind in the country and in the Caribbean. The system is sized to transport up to 20,000 passengers per hour and in each direction and will allow a higher speed and more efficient connections between the northwest and southeast areas of the city,” adds the French industrialist.
Alstom will be responsible for the integration, testing and commissioning of the entire system, the supply of 13 Innovia four-car monorail trains, driverless signaling, reversible power supply, rail conductors, high-frequency switching systems speed and tank equipment.
“This is a historic milestone in the development of sustainable mobility in the Dominican Republic and we are proud to have been chosen to deliver the country’s first monorail,” said Iván Moncayo, Alstom General Manager for the Dominican Republic.
