Raw milk goat cheese aficionados should be on the lookout. Since this weekend, several references have been the subject of national recalls due to the possible presence of an Escherichia coli bacterium known as E. coli. After warning about the potential danger associated with the consumption of a product on Saturday (presented in two different packages), the government website Rappel conso added another four references to the recall list. These are raw milk cheeses, most of which carry the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Selles-sur-Cher.
The references of the products subject to this withdrawal are the following:
- “Saddles to Cher Cheesemaker’s Selection”
- “Saddles at Cher AOP Sélection du Fromager”
- “CHER SADDLES DOP 150g”
- “SADDLES IN CHER AOP 23% MG 150G”
- “SELLES SUR CHER AOP 150G” (marketed with two different packages)
Various brands involved
Most of these cheeses were made at the Anjouin (Indre) cheese factory. They have been marketed in several large stores such as Carrefour, Auchan, Leclerc, ALDI and even Lidl. The reference “SELLES SUR CHER AOP 150G” -in its version not wrapped in plastic- was also offered by wholesalers or independent shops.
“These symptoms can be followed (between 5 and 8% of cases) by serious kidney complications, mainly in children,” adds Rappel Conso. People who have used one or more of the above products and who experience these types of symptoms should immediately consult a doctor. On the other hand, if ten days after having consumed them they do not present symptoms, the danger is avoided.
Consumers who have purchased one of these products are asked not to consume it and to take it to the point of sale where they can receive a refund.
According to the references, the date to lift this reminder instruction is between September 9 and 17.
