This statement by the president of the entity that brings together Macif, Aésio and Abeille illustrates the sector’s reluctance to make new commitments after a year of efforts, according to an article published Thursday by Argus de l’assurance.
“Honestly, the situation is very tough for insurers this year, but we will reiterate, like last year, our call for moderation in daily insurance prices,” Bercy told specialized media. In September 2022, insurers committed to keeping rate increases below the level of inflation for 2022 and 2023.
Greater increase in costs than the CPI
“Our profession has fulfilled its commitments”, but this “is difficult to maintain over time”, affirmed Adrien Couret, referring to the bill for the June earthquake, estimated at 500 million euros, and that of the riots, which could approaching one billion euros. According to him, the year 2024 will be marked by increases in insurance prices that “will revolve around inflation”, since insurers will face an increase in costs higher than the consumer price index.
Franck Le Vallois, general director of the France Assureurs federation, referred to the promise made a year ago, without committing himself to the future. This commitment, assumed for 2022 and 2023, “continues to be relevant” in this new school year, he affirmed, without mentioning the year 2024. Insurers periodically remind us that we have to face the multiplication of natural catastrophes, but also a very important inflation in the cost of repairs, especially in the automobile sector.
