Fake aircraft parts: CFM confirms an issue affecting Airbus and Boeing

The engine manufacturer confirms the existence of falsified certification documents for parts sold by AOG Technics.

The case is extremely worrying. In fact, fake spare parts were supplied for the maintenance of the engines manufactured by CFM (Safran/General Electric) that equip the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 NG of the old generation.

These are CFM-56 engines of which 34,000 were produced.

The manufacturer CFM International confirms this in a press release: “We fully support the investigation by the regulatory authorities into the falsified certification documents that accompany the parts sold by AOG Technics.”

It was Bloomberg who lifted the veil on this possible scandal, revealing that the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is currently investigating a British company (AOG) that allegedly supplied counterfeit parts for the repair of these engines.

In a statement, the European Aviation Safety Agency explains that many certificates have been falsified: 72 documents have been provided covering 50 partial references.

Shelving

Problem, we don’t know who manufactured some of these spare parts, or where they come from, or in which devices and from which companies they were installed.

EASA now requires airlines and maintenance companies to inspect “their records to determine if any aircraft or engine parts were obtained from AOG Technics, directly or indirectly.”

If the certificates are forged, these actors will have to set them aside “to prevent their installation,” the EASA added. And if these parts have been installed, they will have to be replaced without delay.

Contacted by BFM Business, Safran explains that no incident involving these engine parts has been observed and that the group continues to work with the agency to determine which parts are in question. For its part, Air France, also contacted by us, assures that it “does not use the services of this intermediary” and, therefore, is not concerned. AOG Technics has yet to react to these revelations.
