Autoeuropa will resume production in early October

Autoeuropa will resume production in early October after securing the supply of a fundamental part for the T-Roc from a Spanish and a Chinese company, Volkswagen’s Palmela plant announced on Friday.

In an internal note addressed to employees, to which the Lusa office had access, Autoeuropa’s administration informs that, after the work of the logistics and purchasing departments, it was possible to find other suppliers of the missing part, allowing the company was forced to announce a production stop from September 11 to November 12.

“The factory management informs that since the interruption of the supply of a fundamental part in the construction of the engines that equip the T-Roc – among other models of the Volkswagen Group – the group’s logistics and purchasing departments have been working intensively to remedy this soften. influence”refers to Autoeuropa’s internal communications.

“Thanks to this joint effort, Volkswagen Autoeuropa will resume production in early October. Existing sub-suppliers in the Volkswagen Group portfolio, including a Chinese and a Spanish company, will be responsible for a partial supply of parts”adds the document.

The Volkswagen car plant in Palmela, Setúbal district, also states that “taking into account this new reality, all necessary preparations are being made to start production at the Palmela plant. Initially, the number of shifts will be smaller than the usual work schedule.”

“Volkswagen Autoeuropa employees who have been dismissed will be informed as soon as possible about the exact date of their return to their activities and the corresponding change in the dismissal regime”completes Autoeuropa’s administration.

Autoeuropa was forced to announce a nine-week production stop due to the problems of a supplier in Slovenia, which was badly affected by the floods that occurred in that country at the beginning of August, but the company said from the start that the search for alternative solutions to to resume production as soon as possible.

Autoeuropa is a company with a major impact on the Portuguese economy and represents 1.5% of the National Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The production freeze at the Palmela factory also affected dozens of Portuguese suppliers, including companies based in the Autoeuropa Industrial Park, which have already announced the layoffs of at least 325 workers in precarious employment.

Due to the production freeze, Autoeuropa had also announced the layoff of around 100 temporary workers, but they were guaranteed to return to work once production resumed.
