Employees of the Esso-Exxonmobil and Total refineries have started their third week of mobilization and there are gasoline shortages at many service stations in France. A situation that has worsened in her last days, forcing Elisabeth Borne to call a meeting with several of her ministers this Monday night.
And if the blockades persist, “the government will assume its responsibilities to ensure the supply of the French”, BFMTV learned from a government source.
In fact, two unions have reached an agreement with the Esso management: the CFE-CGC and the CFDT. But not the CGT, which indicates that the “workers [sont] Ready to move on.”
The bosses want requisitions
The management with the Esso management was described as “inconclusive” by Christophe Aubert, central union representative of the CGT, reports AFP. Therefore, the strike was extended until Tuesday.
Among the ways that could be started: the requisition of refineries, in particular requested by businessmen.
Asked on Saturday about this hypothesis, the government spokesman, Olivier Véran, had ruled out the idea of the requisition. “In any case, even if the outlet of fuel from the centers is unblocked, the striking employees must return to work” or “the requirement can be avoided with sick leave,” he had declared.
