The VTC drivers’ unions and their candidates questioned in a letter to the Minister of Transport, Clément Beaune, on Friday about the “discrimination” they say they suffer with respect to taxis, regretting in particular having been excluded from the Olympic routes.
These actors, united in a coalition called Paris Mobilité VTC, lamented a “differential treatment” between VTC drivers and taxi drivers: “most strategic urban planning and development projects partially exclude and in most cases complement VTCs, while giving full access to taxis,” he estimated. written in the letter consulted by AFP.
Therefore, VTCs regret having been excluded from the 185 kilometers of Olympic lanes reserved for taxis during and after the competition, as well as from the subsidy for vehicles adapted to people with reduced mobility.
A decree published in the Official Gazette on July 31 establishes from July 1 to September 15, 2024 lanes reserved “for the vehicles of people accredited by the organizing committee of the games”, “for taxis, transport vehicles public transport, to vehicles intended to promote the transportation of people with reduced mobility”, as well as emergency vehicles on the A1, A4, A12, A13, A86, A104 and the N13. This text does not mention VTCs.
Paris Mobilité VTC invokes in its letter the “deep concerns” generated by this “differential treatment”, “while the profession is strongly regulated and has made significant efforts to comply [conformité] with the environmental objectives set by public authorities.
After an initial letter this summer went unanswered, the coalition asked the Transport Minister for a meeting to discuss this issue.
