Scandal in China after an employee at Chinese brewery Tsingtao was filmed urinating in a container. The video in question allegedly shows a warehouse worker at Tsingtao Brewery Co., one of the country’s largest beer makers, climbing onto a large container and relieving itself of its contents.
The video was widely circulated on Chinese social media and garnered tens of millions of views on the popular Weibo platform.
Tsingtao responded on Friday and said he had contacted police about the incident and that an investigation was underway.
“Our company attaches great importance to the video of Tsingtao No. 3 Brewery that was released on October 19,” the brewer said in a statement.
The affected lot “completely sealed”
“We reported the incident to the police as soon as possible and public security bodies are participating in the investigation,” he added.
Tsingtao, China’s second largest brewery, is one of the country’s best-known beverage brands and its large bottles of beer can be found in most bars and restaurants in East Asia.
In recent years, the Hong Kong-listed company has sought to capitalize on the changing tastes of young Chinese drinkers by diversifying into craft beers and other products.
