Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced on Tuesday the requisition of personnel for the release of the fuel depots of the Esso-Exxonmobil group, where a salary agreement was signed on Monday between two union organizations, the majority at the group level but not of its refineries .
“Social dialogue is moving forward, once a majority has emerged. They are not minimum agreements. Management announcements are significant. For this reason, I asked the prefects to undertake, as permitted by law, the procedure for requisitioning the personnel essential for the operation of this company’s warehouses,” said Elisabeth Borne during questions to the government.
Esso has three depots in France, in Toulouse, Fos-sur-Mer (Bouches-du-Rhône) and Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon (Seine-Maritime). The latter two are near the company’s two French refineries, which are on strike.
The Government calls the CGT TotalEnergies to negotiate
Commenting on the situation at the other oil group affected by the strike movements, TotalEnergies, the head of government urged management and unions to enter into wage negotiations, threatening to do the same to “unblock the situation.”
“In Total, the reformist unions have requested the opening of negotiations. Management has responded favorably. I hope that the other representative unions take advantage of this outstretched hand, because social dialogue is always more fruitful than conflict”, said Elisabeth Borne. “Otherwise, the government will act, again, to unblock the situation,” she added.
The prime minister responded to a question from the deputy LR Éric Ciotti, who had considered “that France is no longer governed”, denouncing a “disrespect” to the Executive. The Government, criticized while a third of service stations are affected by fuel shortages, had called for the “immediate” release of fuel tanks, threatening to “intervene”, but the strikers have renewed the movement, both in TotalEnergies as in Esso-ExxonMobil.
