How can we allow as many people as possible to eat bread? For this Amiens baker, the question is vital. According to Le Parisien, Maxime Lefebvre has decided to give the customer the possibility of paying the price they want and above all can for a “tradition”, with a minimum price of 60 cents.
The initiative will take place throughout the month of November in its five bakery-cafés located in Amiens, Lille and Longueau, specifies Le Courrier Picard. “You always save a few cents a day,” rejoices Thomas, a customer, quoted by the regional newspaper.

The “normal” price of the traditional baguette at Mamatte is one euro, a fairly low price compared to the competition, the newspapers point out. Normally, Maxime Lefebvre’s bakeries sell around 1,500 units a day.
Since the launch of this operation on November 2, the vast majority of customers continue to pay this rate, or even more. Only 20 to 25% pay only 60 cents and 10 to 15% of customers pay 80 to 90 cents.
Maxime Lefebvre has also launched other anti-inflationary operations on his brands. Products from the previous day are on sale at half price or “3+1 free on breads, cakes, pastries.”
The Amiens bakery is not the only one that helps those most in need buy bread. For several years now, many bakeries in France have adopted the “suspended baguette” concept. For those who wish, it involves paying for a baguette that the baker will offer to those who cannot buy it.
