During the Web Summit he will give a masterclass on innovation in banking services. What are you going to share?
The main purpose of our visit to Portugal is to talk about the banking and financial sector in Brazil. We are an industry at the forefront of technology and have been for many years benchmark, and one of the most innovative in the world, including in the areas of security, data and integrity. Our expectation is that we can exchange experiences and demonstrate the relevance of the Brazilian banking sector, not only for Brazil, but also for the integration with other countries and other continents.
You end up with Portuguese bankers. What will you share with them?
The idea is to show that Brazil can be proud of its robust, solid, efficient, modern, innovative, well-capitalized, liquid, well-resourced, profitable financial system and also with a great capacity for technological innovation. The capital of Brazilian banks is above the minimum required by Basel rules, with, for example, a capital ratio of 16% or a profitability of 15%. The provisioning levels ensure that our financial system has buffers for possible external and internal shocks.
Can these conversations open doors for future partnerships or sharing of experiences and good practices with National Banks?
Yes, we have an annual event – Febraban Tech – that showcases the most technological and innovative face of the Brazilian banking sector. We have the prospect of internationalizing this initiative, and it is also for this reason that we will participate for the first time in the Web Summit in Lisbon. I believe we can make Febraban Tech a forum for debating important banking innovations, a topic that concerns the entire world. Today, banking customers want convenience, efficiency and security, as well as the assurance that they can find financial products and services to carry out their transactions. And these are challenges for all countries.
And would the purpose of taking this forum outside Brazil be for it to take place in Portugal?
Yes, we want to keep this banking technology fair – which is already the largest in Latin America – outside Brazil. There are two or three days of many debates, with international guests, but we plan to have an international edition outside Brazil. I recognize that this is a bold statement, but I believe it depends on what Brazil has to offer in terms of innovation in banking technology.
From your perspective as a specialist in these areas, how do you see Portuguese banking?
I see a bank that wants to offer families and companies high-quality financial services and products. The whole world is preparing for this, and there is no room for amateurism in the banking systems. No banking sector can make mistakes, because people, families and companies deposit their investments and savings in the financial sector. The Portuguese banking sector has a high standard of quality and data security, and this means that Brazil and Portugal can continue to exchange experiences, also in this area, and expand and strengthen their respective financial sectors and credit markets.
