Danone begins its withdrawal from Russia

In a press release published this Friday morning, the dairy giant announced that it intends to transfer control of the bulk of its activity there, EDP’s activity, which refers to dairy and plant-based products.

Little more than seven months after the start of the war, Danone changed its strategy. Throughout this time, the dairy giant has been enthusiastic about maintaining his presence in Russia and has explained that it is part of his mission to continue feeding the local population, but today he finally decides to throw in the towel. “At the operational level we can no longer do it,” the group tells us, assuring that they still do not know who the buyer will be.

The division of dairy and plant-based products represents 90% of Danone’s activity in Russia (the rest corresponds to specialized nutrition). This represents: 13 factories, 7,200 employees and 5% of its consolidated turnover. The management environment believes that this operation could lead to a depreciation of up to one billion euros, but that this decision is “in the interest of all”, employees, consumers and Danone partners.
