Will tobacconists soon be authorized to sell hunting ammunition?

Talks are underway between the Ministry of the Interior, the Federation of tobacconists and two hunters’ federations.

After tobacco, gambling, PMU, taxes, fines and train tickets, tobacconists could be authorized to sell ammunition for firearms used by hunters.

The information was revealed by the site Chassons.com. The head of the central service for weapons and explosives of the Ministry of the Interior mentions “the upcoming implementation (from January 1, 2024) of the sale of hunting ammunition in tobacconists.”

Being able to access nearby cartridges

“With areas of influence increasingly larger and gunsmiths increasingly reoriented, the idea is to allow hunters to access cartridges close to where they live. The distribution of ammunition will be the responsibility of the “gunsmith closest to the tobacconist.” We can read.

Interrogated by BFM Business, the Ministry of the Interior and the Federation of Tobacconists confirm that talks are being held with two hunter federations, but there is no official announcement at the moment.

Obviously it will not be a question of offering rifle cartridges in all tobacco shops in the region.

Those who will be authorized to sell this sensitive product will be chosen “based on the needs and respecting the territorial coverage of the gunsmiths.” “The network of tobacconists will have to be formed and will respect the network of gunsmiths at this level,” explains a spokesperson for the Federation of Tobacconists.

Contacted by BFM Business, the National Hunters Federation did not respond to our requests for comment.
