Olaf Scholz brushed aside the specter of a power shortage across the Rhine at the end of the year. Germany “will be in a position to face this winter” and ensure its energy supply, the German chancellor assured on Sunday. The leader thus wanted to reassure despite the depletion of Russian gas deliveries on which his economy largely depends.
“Russia is no longer a reliable energy provider”
“Russia is no longer a reliable supplier of energy… The federal government has been preparing for this eventuality since the beginning of the year,” he told reporters. Olaf Scholz highlighted in a prominent way the strategy of diversification of supply sources and filling of gas reserves launched by the leading European economy. He should allow the country to cope with a prolonged shutdown of the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
