Offshore wind: Emmanuel Macron announces the launch of a major tender in 2025

The head of state wants to create a dozen parks that should operate between 2030 and 2035.

On his trip to the maritime economy conference this Tuesday, November 28 in Nantes, Emmanuel Macron announced the launch of a broad call for tenders for the development of offshore wind energy, in 2025. The president thus reaffirms his ambition to make offshore wind energy the first source of renewable energy in France.

A production of 10 GW is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 10 million homes.

The objective is to establish precise location zones in both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, the English Channel and the North Sea.

8 GW of marine parks today

France currently has 8 GW of marine parks installed or planned. The goal is to reach 45 GW in 2050, which will make offshore wind the second source of electricity production after nuclear power.

Beforehand, a public debate – open on November 20 and until April 26 – should make it possible to identify the places where around fifty similar parks will be installed between now and 2050.
