Part of the Monoprix workforce went on strike on Friday, to denounce the deterioration of their working conditions due, according to the unions, to the shortage of personnel, according to what we learned from union sources.
According to the two unions FO and CFDT, which are calling a strike with the CGT and part of the CFE-CGC, the movement was launched on Friday morning in several Monoprix stores in the west and was particularly followed in Caen, Le Havre (with 72 83 employees on strike), Angers and Tours. In Lisieux (Calvados), the employees also opted for an hour of strike.
According to the CFDT, the employees intended to express their “feeling fed up” with the shortage of personnel. “For several months, the management has been reducing the workforce, people can’t take it anymore,” CFDT central delegate Patricia Virfolet told AFP.
3,000 employees not replaced
For two years, “more than 3,000 people” have left or have not been replaced, according to Patricia Virfolet, or “about 6 people per store.”
“Since the post-Covid period, we have adjusted staff costs and have not replaced people who are leaving,” he added.
According to the CFDT secretary of the CSE (Social and Economic Committee) of the Caen store, Eric Michel, the strike was followed locally by “90% of the employees”, however, the store remained open with the exception of fish. , delicatessen and bakery departments.
“When it is necessary, on time we are very aware that we cannot compensate for an absence. But we want to be able to offer a decent service to our customers, and because of the stress that this can put on our tellers,” he added. noting that “the hours of surveillance have also been reduced” and “the feeling of insecurity is increasing.”
