Almost three weeks after a call launched by several unions, delivery workers from different platforms will go on strike this Saturday, December 2 and Sunday, December 3. Despite a meeting with Uber Eats on November 21, the strike call remained in place to protest against the food delivery platform’s change in remuneration “without consultation.” “As things stand, the strike continues to maintain pressure on all platforms,” declared Ludovic Rioux, of the CGT Transport federation, in unison with Union-Indépendants.
Ludovic Rioux also considered the Uber Eats proposals made during last week’s meeting “insufficient.” “Uber Eats has heard the concerns that this change may generate among certain delivery drivers” and the company “will increase the guaranteed minimum sector income per hour from 11.75 euros” to 14 euros for six months, Uber Eats said in a statement. “As long as the waiting time is not included (in the remuneration calculation), nothing will change,” bothers the representative of the CGT Transport federation, in unison with Union-Indépendants.
The National Federation of Self-Employed Entrepreneurs remains in the background
Implemented on October 10, the new price “may cause certain trips to vary up and others down, [mais elle] does not intend to reduce the average remuneration per trip”, justifies Uber Eats, which even notes “a slight increase in the average income per trip of 1.4%” in the pilot cities (Avignon, Lille and Rouen). After the deployment “Complete with With the new pricing, average revenue per ride saw a slight increase of 3% during the first week,” Uber Eats said.
Therefore, the CGT and the Independent Unions maintain their call for a national strike and demand the withdrawal of the new prices, as well as “transparency in the price of races and a significant increase in salaries.” For its part, the National Federation of Automobile Entrepreneurs (FNAE) indicated in a press release in mid-November that it “does not support the mobilization”, estimating that the new prices “should make it possible to maintain or even increase the income of the majority of the delivery men”. Uber Eats has 65,000 independent delivery drivers in France who connect to its application.
