In a context of high inflation, the French seem increasingly concerned about their purchasing power. In this new school year, there are in fact 48% who consider this subject as their main reason for concern, according to the barometer of the concerns of the French of the CSA for the Sunday newspaper. This share, two points more than in April, has continued to increase since the beginning of 2022.
Just behind purchasing power, the environment ranks second and represents the main concern of 27% of the French.
Young people are more concerned about the environment
This concern is even more present among young people, since 36% of young people between 25 and 34 years old consider that the environmental issue is their main concern. By contrast, only 18% of respondents aged 65 and over designate it as such.
It is also a matter of great concern to voters on the left. Among this group of the population, the environment and purchasing power are of concern to 40%.
Health ranks third among the concerns of the French, with 23%. A much lower ratio than at the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis. In May 2020, the health problem was, in fact, the main concern of 57% of the French.
Energy shortages, a new source of concern
The shortage of energy makes a strong debut in this ranking and goes directly to fourth position (21%). As for the war in Ukraine, it is becoming less and less worrying (19%), that is, eleven points less than in April. But this issue weighs more (34%) for those over 65 than for those under 35 (12%).
Inequalities in school, housing and gender are at the bottom of the ranking with 6%, 5% and 3% respectively.
However, insecurity remains a major concern for right-wing and far-right voters. For the latter, this topic occupies the second place (38%) of concerns.
