Airport: Deadline for public consultation of the report extended to January 26

The independent technical committee extended the deadline for public consultation on the new airport’s environmental report by another week, to January 26.

“The Independent Technical Commission (CTI) of the new airport extended until January 26 the deadline for public consultation on the Environmental Report, which it presented at its third conference on December 5, due to the Christmas and New Year holidays, which also includes two days of time tolerance has been recorded,” it said in a statement on Friday.

The public consultation period for the preliminary report would run from December 6, 2023 to January 19, but will therefore be extended by a further five working days.

After receiving contributions during the public consultation, the CTI will prepare the final report, including contributions that reveal “rationality”, “merit”, “expediency and technical relevance”.

The CTI responsible for the strategic environmental assessment for increasing airport capacity in the Lisbon region presented the preliminary report on December 5, which will serve as the basis for the government decision on the new airport.

The committee considered that of the nine options examined, Alcochete is the one with the most benefit, with a first phase in a dual model with Humberto Delgado Airport and then the transition to a single infrastructure on the south bank of the Tagus River.

The Vendas Novas option was also considered viable along the same lines, first in a dual model and then to a single airport.
