“We shed a tear for you”: the left is ironic after the tweet of the head of TotalEnergies about his remuneration

At the end of the afternoon, Patrick Pouyanné published a tweet detailing his remuneration in the last five years. The publication did not take long to arouse an avalanche of reactions, especially in the ranks of the left.

Many are already talking about a serious miscommunication on the part of Patrick Pouyanné. This Tuesday, shortly before 5:00 p.m., the head of TotalEnergies posted a message on his Twitter account to respond to deputy Charles Fournier (EELV) who accused him of refusing to discuss wages and taxation of the super-earnings when he had increased his compensation by 52%

In the attached image we see that the annual salary of the head of TotalEnergies has always been around 6 million euros, except for the year 2020 in which it fell below the bar of 4 million euros. Amounts that continue to be exorbitant in the eyes of several leftist politicians who rushed to respond to the businessman.

“We will have to go back down to earth”

The LFI-Nupes deputy, François Rufin, was one of the first to draw, not without irony: “Dear Patrick Pouyanné, all my support for you who, in 2020, had to survive on €3,918,263. Or 2,545 Smic. If little when you achieve the feat of not paying corporate tax in France. Justice was restored in 2021. €5,944,129, the minimum for a decent existence.”

The PCF spokesman, Ian Brossat, and the national secretary for political formation, Fabien Roussel, adopted the same tone. “About to queue at the Restos du Coeur…”, joked the first. “We all shed a tear for you, Patrick,” added the second. For his part, the first secretary of the Socialist Party called on the head of the CAC40 to “come down to earth.”

The Parisian deputy Aymeric Caron (Nupes) also went there with his little tweet: “So, in fact, the 6 million a year, have been going on for years.” Finally, the national secretary of Europa-Ecologie Les Verts came out in support of his comrade Charles Fournier: “Thank you sir for confirming it: my colleague is right. His remuneration has increased by +50% in one year and has reached €500,000/month A good sum to run a company that continues with its climate control projects.”
