Energy: hotels and restaurants negotiate collectively to reduce costs

Facing rising energy prices, hotel and restaurant owners are trying to act collectively and asking their parent organization to better negotiate contracts with suppliers.

The Hotel Trades and Industries Union (UMIH) has 35,000 members and represents a significant strike force. For Stéphane Manigold, the head of the Eclore group at the head of eight restaurants in Paris, you have to take advantage of it. The one who is running for the presidency of the main union in the sector wants to act as an intermediary with energy providers.

According to an internal survey, 85% of independent establishments are not covered by the price shield. In question, too restrictive conditions. Only VSEs with fewer than 10 employees, generating less than €2 million in annual turnover, benefit.

Electricity bills multiplied by 20 or 30

Result: 75% of the establishments are already in conflict and anticipate cash flow problems with electricity bills that have multiplied by 20 or 30. Given this, the only way out is to opt for group negotiation in the manner of a purchasing center or the big hotel chains.

Stéphane Manigold has the experience of the collective. It was he who brought the restaurateurs together during the health crisis and forced Axa to compensate for operating losses.
