Bayer confirms a “significant workforce reduction” in Germany

“The job cuts should be implemented quickly in the coming months and completed no later than the end of 2025,” according to a press release from Bayer, which employs about 22,000 people in Germany, out of more than 100,000 worldwide.

The chemical and pharmaceutical giant Bayer confirmed on Wednesday afternoon a “significant reduction” of its workforce in Germany between now and the end of 2025, destined for management functions, in the context of a reorganization to improve the group’s results.

The group’s German entities will be affected by this “significant workforce reduction”, the number of which has not been specified, but which was the subject of an agreement between management and staff representatives, the statement announced.

Job cuts announced in November

The developed plan aims to “reduce hierarchies and complex structures within the company” so that “job cuts will affect employees with management or coordination tasks.”

These job cuts were announced in November during the latest financial results of the group, whose new CEO who arrived in June, the American Bill Anderson, wants to carry out a major reorganization.

The German agropharmaceutical giant, still entangled in the United States due to legal problems caused by the glyphosate-based herbicide Roundup, is seeking to relaunch to improve its operational and financial results.

The agreement reached with staff representatives guarantees the absence of financial dismissals of employees until the end of 2026, in order to prioritize training and recycling plans and age measures as much as possible.
