Paris-Clermont train blocked all night: how will passengers be compensated?

The SNCF has promised compensation of 200% of the ticket price to passengers on the Paris-Clermont train who are stranded for several hours without heating during the night.

A long night for passengers on the Paris-Clermont train. Intercités train 5983, which left the Paris-Bercy station at 6:57 p.m., did not arrive until 6:20 a.m. in Clermont-Ferrand, more than 7 hours late compared to the initially planned trip, after a breakdown. The 700 travelers were forced to wait several hours at the Montargis station, in the dark and without heating, on a very cold night. Firefighters and the Red Cross had to intervene.

A delay of more than 3 hours usually gives the right, according to the SNCF guarantee known as “G30”, to financial compensation of 75% of the ticket price. However, given the difficult night experienced by passengers on the Paris-Clermont train, the SNCF indicated that it had proposed “exceptional commercial compensation measures”, referring to a “compensation of 200% of the ticket price”, according to a spokesperson for the railway group to the AFP.

Bordeaux-Paris in September

Last September, 200% compensation was granted to passengers of the Ouigo Bordeaux-Paris TGV, trapped for several hours in a tunnel. During the December 2022 railway strike, SNCF implemented an exceptional refund system to alleviate its customers’ dissatisfaction. The full refund was complemented by a credit equivalent to 200% of the ticket price for travelers who had been deprived of the train.

The Paris-Clermont line is known for its repeated delays, periodically reported by its users.
