Farmers’ anger: two European purchasing centers risk fines of “several tens of millions of euros”

The Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire, assured that two European purchasing centers that evade French law risk “several tens of millions of euros” in fines.

Will European purchasing centers go through the cash register? In the crosshairs of the French authorities, who accuse them of wanting to circumvent French law, some are already the subject of possible sanctions. This has just been announced by the Minister of Economy.

The minister estimated that there is “no lawless zone” with these European purchasing centers.

Sanctions canceled in the past

The affected plants now have two months to oppose the sanction, after which the fine will be final.

Let us remember that the French sanctions against the European purchasing centers were annulled in the past by the European authorities because they were considered incompetent in the matter.

Thus, at the end of 2022, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CUEJ) ruled in favor of the European purchasing center of the E.Leclerc group against Bercy, which accused it of not respecting French legislation.

The Minister of the Economy also announced that numerous controls had been carried out at national level.

In some of these cases, Bercy has notified manufacturers or distributors of prior sanctions.
