Fuel shortage: these French who preferred the train

For fear of suffering the difficulties still present at service stations, some vacationers preferred to secure their All Saints vacations by opting for the train, whose reservations have increased significantly in recent days.

Highways a little less congested than usual… for fuller trains? This is the observation that could be made during these All Saints festivities, whose first waves of departure have just begun. This Thursday, the SNCF already reported 4 million tickets sold for these parties, a quarter of which in the last 10 days.

“We expect an increase in attendance of 10% compared to 2019 and last year, a positive dynamic like the one we had seen during this summer’s holidays,” said the public company, which stated that it had not registered any “particular movement of cancellations.”

“We chose the train for safety”

On the Montparnasse station forecourt on Saturday morning, BFMTV collected several testimonials from travelers who opted for the train instead of the car. “I chose to take the train because it is much easier for me, explained a lady. It will save me fatigue, the car and even looking for gasoline pumps”.

In fact, 13% of some 11,000 gas stations in France still do not have at least one fuel, and some regions are particularly affected, such as Burgundy-Franche-Comté or Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

Several vacationers have anticipated possible difficulties in making their trips with complete peace of mind and have therefore preferred to resort to rail transport, which is currently less exposed to tensions.

A recent survey carried out by PàP (Individual to Individual) on reservation requests for the period from October 22 to November 6 showed a significant increase between 2021 and 2022 for destinations benefiting from a SNCF service, with La Rochelle, Saint -Malo, La Baule or even Annecy.
