Energy prices: Limoges, Versailles, Granville… Thirty swimming pools suddenly closed on Monday

With energy costs skyrocketing, many businesses that operate municipal pools are forced to close them prematurely to save money.

Some thirty public swimming pools, in Limoges, Granville or Versailles, suddenly closed their doors on Monday because the operating company Vert Marine can no longer cope with rising energy prices, this company said in a press release sent to the AFP.

Around 10% of the 4,000 French public swimming pools are managed through a public service delegation and not directly by the community where they are located. Often heated by gas, swimming pools are energy-intensive pieces of equipment that bear the brunt of rising prices.
