Consumer credit increased 10.5% year-on-year in the first half, driven mainly by revolving credit and personal loans, according to data released Monday by the French Association of Financial Companies (ASF). The latter increased by 18.3% and 16.7% respectively in the first half, compared to the same period in 2021.
LOA financing is still very popular
On the other hand, the production of loans for the purchase of second-hand private vehicles only increased by 3.2%, while those dedicated to housing and home equipment grew by 6.7%.
Lease-to-own (LOA) transactions, very popular for new and used vehicles, continue to be an important activity for the sector: they represent one in four consumer loans and grew by 6% in the first half.
Credit production of 24,300 million euros
In the entire period, the production of specialized establishments was 24,300 million euros. Consumer loans weighed 45.3 billion euros in all of last year.
The ASF brings together some 260 furniture and real estate leasing companies, factoring and other related services. It only gives for consumer credit the figures of its partners “which represent about 50% of the outstanding balance of all credit entities and the majority of revolving credit operations,” it specifies.
