It is a divisive project. In La Clusaz (Haute-Savoie), a new water tank is to be installed to supply the ski resort’s snow cannons. The goal: to extend the useful life of your ski area every year and boost its profitability.
This hill reservoir is to be built on the Beauregard plateau, a reservoir of 148,000 cubic meters of water. It would be the fifth water reservoir of this type located in the municipality.
According to the public survey carried out among the population, this project officially fulfills several objectives.
A challenged development model
But environmental associations and activists are strongly opposed. In fact, the establishment of this hill reservoir requires the destruction of the Bois de la Colombière located on the Beauregard plateau, an aberration for many activists.
Despite this, the prefect of Haute-Savoie granted, on September 19, a notification of public utility for stopped. A few days later, activists got together and set up a high-rise ZAD to protest the project.
But it is also the ski resort development model that is being denounced while the global warming more and more limited the practice. “Our world is going crazy”, reacted the environmentalist deputy Sandrine Rousseau in Twitter.
In the long term, however, the municipality claims to want to adapt its activity to the evolution of the climate. But it intends, initially, to finance this transition thanks to this hillside reservoir project.
A strong dependence on the local economy.
But the project not only attracts detractors. On Friday night, several hundred people in favor of establishing the hillside reservoir gathered to show their support, reported the dolphin. A widely shared position that is explained in particular by the strong economic dependence of the city and its 2,000 inhabitants on skiing and tourism activities.
asked by TF1 On October 20, the director of the La Clusaz ski lifts indicated that the local company had a turnover of 120 million euros and employed some 2,000 people. “The shareholder of this small SME is the municipality, the merchants, the inhabitants of the town,” he specified.
Grenoble’s administrative court on Thursday examined in summary proceedings the request of five environmental protection associations, including France Nature Environnement, the League for the Protection of Birds and Mountain Wilderness France, it was reported. The world. To support their request, these organizations challenged the authorization of the prefecture that allows the repeal of the norms for the protection of species in danger of extinction. A sesame without which the work cannot be done.
The court will announce on Tuesday if the works can start or not.
