32 of 56 reactors were shut down due to maintenance or corrosion problems. In the midst of an energy crisis, the risk of nuclear power shortages hangs over France. If EDF has confirmed the return to service this winter of 28 of these stopped reactors, Emmanuel Macron wanted to defend his record in this area during the conference he held this Monday on the energy crisis.
Accused of lack of foresight, the president asserts, on the contrary, that it was during his first term that confidence in nuclear energy was restored.
“Everyone must take responsibility”
Especially Emmanuel Macron attacked, without citing him, the head of EDF Jean-Bernard Lévy, who last week accused the state of being responsible for the current situation.
“Why don’t we have enough trained teams?” asked the current head of EDF who is about to step down during La Ref du Medef. Because they told us ‘your nuclear park will decline, prepare to close plants’ […]. Obviously we don’t hire people to build others.”
The head of EDF says for his part that he lacks the weapons to carry out maintenance work as well as to solve the corrosion problems of French power plants.
The Head of State unveiled in Belfort in February an important plan to revive French nuclear energy, including the construction of six EPRs by 2045.
