Poland announced on Monday the purchase of cruise missiles from the United States, worth 677 million euros, in order to increase its defense capabilities against a potential threat from Russia.
Deliveries of the AGM-158 JASSM-ER (Joint Air-Ground Standoff Missile) missiles will take place between 2026 and 2030, the ministry said.
Poland already has JASSM missiles with a range of 370 kilometers used by its American-made F-16 multirole fighter jets.
The contract, which will be officially signed on Tuesday, is part of a rapid modernization of the Polish military, accelerated by Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Faced with the Russian threat, Warsaw has increased its defense budget to around 4% of GDP, the highest figure among NATO countries.
Warsaw also launched, with billions of dollars, a series of purchases of military equipment, mainly in the United States and South Korea.
