The striking workers of the TotalEnergies refinery in Gonfreville-L’Orcher (Seine-Maritime) voted this Thursday to continue with their movement, which they want to make “more visible and more offensive”, AFP from the CGT learned. The next general assembly will be held on Wednesday, November 2 in the afternoon, said the general secretary of the CGT of the Normandy platform, Alexis Antonioli. Thursday’s general meeting of shareholders was held a few hours after TotalEnergies posted a sharp rise in third-quarter earnings.
“When you have a group (…) that is capable of aligning dividend envelopes of up to 2,600 million, we think that they should be able to find solutions, even local ones, in a place like ours,” he declared. .
The Gonfreville refinery and the Feyzin depot (Rhône) are the last two places to continue the movement started by the CGT on September 27, which caused fuel supply difficulties throughout the country. “We are not in a context of crisis in Total”, added the CGT delegate. “We are in a company that could choose, if it wants, to have social peace.”
“short of breath”
The Gonfreville refinery and the Feyzin deposit (Rhône) are the last two sites to continue the movement. During Thursday’s GA, around 90% of the employees present voted to make their move “more visible and more offensive”, according to an AFP journalist at the scene. Several speakers, however, underlined a “shortness of breath” of mobilization inside the Normandy refinery.
TotalEnergies announced on Thursday a net profit of 6.6 billion dollars in the 3rd quarter, 43% more than that of the 3rd quarter of 2021. Last Thursday, the strike in Gonfreville had lasted until October 27, coinciding with the publication of the quarterly results of the group .
