It’s a successful operation for McDonald’s… But also for some of its customers. The limited offer of “Happy Meal” for adults, launched on October 3 by the US fast food chain, in partnership with the clothing brand Cactus Plant Flea Market, has won over US consumers. Witness the staggering prices on eBay for the small toys offered with this menu.
To touch the hearts of the most nostalgic, the company had accompanied these “Happy Meals” -made for the occasion a little more consistent than those intended for children- with figurines with the effigy of the brand’s cult characters. In its cartons, US consumers could find Hamburglar, Birdie or Grimace, as well as Cactus Buddy, specially designed by the associated ready-to-wear brand.
$300,000, $25,000, $2,400…
And in the face of enthusiasm for this limited offer, some have sniffed out the opportunity. As the menu is no longer available in US restaurants, consumers have decided to take advantage of the shortage of these toys by putting them up for sale on eBay. This is the case of an individual who offered three figurines still wrapped for the modest sum of $300,000.95, as reported by CNBC. An offer that has already found buyers, as mentioned in the ad. However, the final price at which this transaction was made is unknown.
If the other ads that offer this type of object show much less exorbitant prices, sometimes they can exceed $10,000. A seller put his figurine up for sale for $25,000. A box of 150 toys for $2,400 also came out, indicates the American media.
Other lots of the same type were eventually purchased for $1,900.
