Industrial sites in France return to their 2019 level

According to the latest Ancoris barometer, in the first half of 2022 about 600 commercial establishments were counted.

A relay for the industry in France? The latest Ancoris barometer counts 595 commercial establishments (site creation or relocation) in France in the first half of 2022, compared to 895 in 2021 and 658 in 2020 for the same period. After two exceptional years in terms of industrial projects, it returns to the levels of 2019, a year in which 571 commercial establishments were registered in the first half.

In addition, a year of presidential elections “always marks a small waiting time in making investment decisions,” he adds, specifying that this is similar to what was observed in 2012 or 2017.

In spite of everything, if the constitution of companies returns to approach the figures prior to the crisis, they continue to be higher than those recorded in those years, “and even when we return to much more distant crises such as that of 2008-2010”.

The effect of the health crisis, with the awareness of the need to secure supply chains, is still being felt. “We find it in the figures, but we also see it in the speeches of the project leaders, the business leaders themselves”, underlines Guillaume Gady.

Still, the conflict in Ukraine, rising prices and the energy crisis could jam the machine in the second half of 2022. This “further disrupts supply chains and reinforces this wait-and-see attitude, because when you’re a leader of project, a management company, needs to be sure about the future to be able to invest […]. We need to have elements of reinsurance and there is a little less today than we had in 2021,” he explains.
