The economic growth of the euro area slowed down very sharply in the third quarter, to +0.2% compared to the previous quarter, while inflation accelerated in October to reach a new record (+10.7%) Eurostat announced on Monday.
In the second quarter, growth had reached 0.8% compared to January-March and 4.3% (revised) compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021.
The economy in the 19 countries partageant la monnaie unique a toutefois mieux résisté qu’attendu sur la période juillet-septembro de la flambée des prix alimentée par la guerre in Ukraine, et alors que s’intensifient les risques de récession dans la region.
Among the Member States for which data is available, Sweden (+0.7%) recorded the largest increase in three months, followed by Italy (+0.5%), Portugal and Lithuania (+0.4% each) .
Declines were recorded in Latvia (-1.7%), as well as in Austria and Belgium (-0.1% each).
