Safran has entered into exclusive negotiations with Thales to acquire its electrical systems business for civil and military aeronautics. It includes three sites in France based in Chatou (78), Meru (60) and Conflans-Ste Honorine (78), as well as aeronautical electrical equipment production and maintenance sites in Orlando (USA) and Singapore.
In a press release, Safran explains that he wants to continue “his strategy as a manufacturer of equipment positioned throughout the electrical chain”. For its part, Thales wants to refocus on its core businesses in the fields of aerospace, defense and security, identity and digital security.
These units employ 600 people. In 2021, they achieved a turnover of 124 million euros. This operation is subject to the information consultation procedure of the corresponding Thales and Safran employee representative bodies, as well as the usual regulatory authorisations. The transaction would be completed in the course of 2023.
