Annual inflation in the eurozone hit another record this month, reaching 10.7% in October, from 9.9% last month, according to an estimate published this Monday by the Statistical Office of the European Union (EU). ), the Eurostat.
Preliminary data from Eurostat reveal a new maximum in the statistical series, which had already broken in September, with an annual inflation rate of 9.9%, a rate now surpassed by 10.7% in October.
Inflation in Portugal this month was slightly below the European average at 10.6%.
In the euro area as a whole, the main component in ‘pulling’ this inflation increase in October, as in previous months, was energy (41.9%, up from 40.7% in September), followed by food, alcohol and tobacco ( 13.1%, up from 11.8% in September), non-energy industrial goods (6.0%, up from 5.5% in September) and services (4.4%, up from 4.3% in September).
Eurozone inflation has been accelerating since June 2021, mainly due to rising energy prices, reaching record levels since November 2021.
