The images of the damage are very impressive. On Friday, August 23, a Boeing 737-400 of Ariana Afghan Airlines was severely damaged during takeoff from Khost Airport, from where it was due to fly to Dubai.
The plane overshot the end of the runway and then crashed into the airport fence and infrastructure.
It still managed to take off, but was diverted to Kabul for an emergency landing.
There were no injuries among the 110 passengers and nine crew members, but the plane suffered significant damage.
The plane was still on the ground in Kabul about 45 hours after landing.
Ariana Afghan Airlines has been on the list of airlines banned in the European Union since October 2006 for failing to meet international safety requirements.
