GRDF, Enedis: new strike movements for wages in the energy sector

After the signing on October 18 of a branch agreement in the energy sector, it is now up to the companies to negotiate internal measures to compensate for inflation.

Strike calls have been launched for the next few days at GRDF (gas distributor) and the administrator of the electricity distribution network Enedis, in the midst of wage negotiations, we learned this Tuesday from the organizers.

After the signing on October 18 of a branch agreement in the energy sector, it is now up to the companies to negotiate internal measures to compensate for inflation, as recently in EDF where an agreement made it possible to put an end to work stoppages at nuclear power plants.

But the negotiations are stalled in GRDF, where the CGT calls for a day of strike on Wednesday, on the sidelines of a new negotiation meeting, while in Enedis, an inter-union CGT/CFE-CGC/CFDT/FO calls for a day of Strike Thursday.

Weigh in negotiations

“To influence the negotiations, everyone mobilized on November 3,” proclaims the Enedis inter-union in a flyer.

The CGT, the main union, asks for an increase of 4.6% for all by 2022 and 2.3% in 2023, in addition to additional measures for low wages and individual measures.

The management of Enedis told AFP that it had presented a first proposal that included a 2.3% increase for all employees, in addition to the salary increase of the branch, plus individual measures, everything that represents a “budget increase global salary of 7%”.

“A mid-year review clause has also been proposed if inflation turns out to be higher than forecast,” he added.

In GRDF, the employees will be encouraged to strike on Wednesday at the call of the only CGT, the first union organization of the company (46.58% in the last elections).

During two negotiation sessions on October 25 and 27, “we got some back, but it’s not enough,” Sébastien Raya, representative of the central union CGT, told AFP.

GRDF proposed “adding a 2.3%” wage increase to the industry agreement “and we are asking for 4.6%,” he told AFP.

Contacted by AFP, GRDF management could not immediately be reached.

For Raya, the distribution employees, “whether from Enedis or GRDF, are the poor relatives” of these wage negotiations, compared to the employees of GRT-Gaz (gas transport network) or the nuclear power plants, who they won their case, given the threat their strikes posed to France’s energy supply this winter.
