Ukrainian cereals: Emmanuel Macron accuses Russia of endangering food security

The President of the Republic considered that Moscow was harming “world food security” by suspending its participation in the agreement that allows the export of Ukrainian cereals.

Russia “harms world food security” with its decision to suspend its participation in the agreement that allows the export of Ukrainian cereals, French President Emmanuel Macron denounced on Tuesday after a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Almost 10 million tons of Ukrainian grain exported

The international agreement involving Ukraine and Russia was concluded in July under the auspices of Turkey and the UN and expires on November 19. To avoid a serious food crisis, particularly in Africa, it has allowed the export of more than 9.7 million tons of Ukrainian cereals, stuck in Ukrainian ports since the start of the conflict on February 24.

Russia announced on Saturday that it was “suspending” its participation in the deal, after accusing Kyiv of a “massive” drone attack on its fleet in annexed Crimea. On Monday, Moscow warned of the “danger” of continuing to navigate the corridor without its agreement.

An international conference on December 13 in Paris

Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelensky also mentioned the “international conference aimed at supporting the civil resilience of the country during the winter period” that France plans to organize on December 13 in Paris, bringing together donors and other actors.
