Does the new Prime Minister, Michel Barnier, intend to return to pension reform, as the New Popular Front and the National Rally want?
During his first interview on TF1 on Friday 6 September, Michel Barnier announced his desire to change the lines but without completely questioning the reform.
“The president will preside and the government will govern”
He thus intends to “open the debate” for an “improvement” of the pension reform, in particular for the “most vulnerable people”. All in a spirit of consultation with the unions but without giving further details: the Prime Minister indicated that he would discuss this issue with the deputies.
“I will open the debate on improving this law for the most vulnerable people and I will do so with the social partners,” he said.
He declined to say whether he would reconsider raising the legal retirement age to 64, but said he wanted to respect “the budgetary framework.”
Marking his difference from Emmanuel Macron, for whom a step back is a red line, he stresses that “the president will preside and the government will govern.”
