United States: Two planes collide at Atlanta airport and one of the planes has its tail torn off

Two planes collided on Tuesday, September 10, on the runway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Material damage but passengers unharmed. Two Delta planes collided on Tuesday, September 10 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, United States, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the airline confirmed to American media.

“As Delta Air Lines Flight 295 was taxiing for takeoff at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, its wingtip struck the tail of Endeavour Air Flight 5526, the FAA told ABC News. The Delta Airbus A350 was headed to Tokyo.”

The incident occurred at the intersection of two lanes of traffic at 10:10 a.m. local time.

No injuries

Delta told CNN that the wing of one of its Airbus A350s “came into contact” with a Delta CRJ 900 operated by Endeavour, but no one on board was injured.

Photos and videos of rescuers making their way to the damaged aircraft quickly spread on social media. “It was terrifying. As we were taxiing for the flight from Atlanta to Louisiana, another plane appeared to have hit the back of our plane,” meteorologist Jason Adams wrote on his X account.

He added: “Very loud scraping noises of metal, then loud bangs. We are fine. There is no fire or smoke.”
