The Airbus A350 engine problem that led to the cancellation of dozens of Cathay Pacific flights in early September may have caused “significant damage,” according to an investigation by Hong Kong authorities published on Thursday.
“Had this situation not been detected and resolved quickly, it could have escalated into a more serious engine fire, potentially causing significant damage to the aircraft,” said a report by the Air Accidents Investigation Authority (AAIA), which recommended that engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce carry out inspections on the A350s.
