Inflation: Germany will limit energy prices from 2023

This cap is the main part of the controversial €200 billion energy “bazooka” announced at the end of September by Berlin.

The German tariff shield on energy prices, announced by Chancellor Olaf Scholz to mitigate the impact of inflation, will come into force at the beginning of 2023, according to the roadmap presented by the Government this Wednesday.

Capping gas and electricity prices is the main part of the controversial €200 billion energy “bazooka” announced in late September by Berlin. The gasoline cap is planned from “January 1” for large companies, and “March 1” for households and SMEs, indicates a final draft published by the German government.

As for electricity, the mechanism will be launched on “January 1”.
