A 20% increase is coming. Apprenticeship progresses in France for the start of the 2022 school year, with 860,000 apprentices under contract, revealed Carole Grandjean, Minister Delegate in charge of Education and Vocational Training to the Minister of Labour, invited by Business B.F.M. this Wednesday.
This progression continues the fundamental dynamic generated by the implementation of very advantageous aid for companies, in times of the covid-19 pandemic: 5,000 euros for a minor and 8,000 for an adult.
In 2020, the number of identified apprentices had increased by 42% compared to 2019. Last year, the one-year increase reached 37% to reach 718,000 signed contracts. This must not stop: the government maintains its goal of reaching one million, confirmed Carole Grandjean.
Unified premium under discussion
The minister also confirmed the continuation of the discussions around the renewal of this aid, decided in times of covid to facilitate the hiring of young people. The ambition is, in particular, to reduce the different amounts to one: a €6,000 bonus paid to any employer who hires an apprentice. The tax exemption and aid schemes had already been redesigned to reach the two options -8,000 and 5,000 euros- offered by the “1 young person, 1 solution” plan.
The use of apprenticeships has contributed to the drop in the youth unemployment rate, to the lowest level (15.9% at the end of 2021) in several decades. It also seems to favor subsequent indefinite hiring, in particular guaranteeing CAP or professional baccalaureate students employment rates two or three times higher.
But the Court of Auditors was very critical of the aid, granted without funding in 2018 during the apprenticeship reform, and then renewed and expanded. In addition, in an Indeed study dated July, 40% of companies explained that they would stop hiring apprentices if these public supports disappeared.
