SNCF: CGT and Sud-Rail present a national strike notice for October 1

The two trade union organisations are particularly denouncing the “liquidation” of Fret SNCF and the creation of subsidiaries on the TER.

François Durovray, the new Minister of Transport of the Michel Barnier’s government will not benefit from any grace period. He will very quickly have to deal with a new social movement within the SNCF.

In a joint statement, the CGT and Sud-Rail announced that they had filed a national strike notice which will begin on Monday 30 September at 7 p.m. and end on Tuesday 2 October at 8 a.m. The two trade union organisations denounce in particular the “liquidation” of Fret SNCF and the creation of subsidiaries on the TER.

“The plan to liquidate Fret SNCF continues without taking into account the recommendations of the parliamentary commission of inquiry and the demands of the trade union organisations. The same applies to the creation of TER subsidiaries, which our federations denounce, since there is no obligation for the management to take this decision in any other way than to violate the social rights of railway workers,” we read.

salary increase

“The wage issue will be referred to the NAO at the end of the year, while the conflict that has been accumulating for many years is still there (…) That is why the CGT and SUD-Rail trade unions are calling on Cheminotes and Cheminots to register en masse for the interprofessional day of strikes and unitary demonstrations on 1 October 2024,” the two unions continue.

In addition to freezing the plans relating to Fret SNCF and TER, they are also demanding “a general increase in wages, the granting of a real thirteenth month for all, the revaluation/restructuring of employment bonuses and the recognition of qualifications for all railway workers.”

As usual, SNCF traffic forecasts will be announced 48 hours in advance, i.e. on the evening of 28 September.
